YORK, Oct. 23 – State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, D-York, has been recognized with the Elected Woman of Excellence Award for 2024 by the National Foundation for Women Legislators.
The Elected Women of Excellence Award celebrates the remarkable achievements of women leaders from across the nation, and the positive impact they’ve made in their communities. Winners are nominated by their peers for being “hardworking, passionate, and fearless,” according to NFWL, and selected by a panel of NFWL members.
The NFWL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that supports elected women from all levels of governance. It does not take ideological positions on public policy issues but, rather, serves as a forum for women legislators to be empowered through information and experience.
Hill-Evans will accept the award with a speech at NFWL’s Annual Conference in November.
“Representative Hill-Evans is a strong voice for her neighbors in York and an asset to the Pennsylvania state House serving as chair of both the powerful State Government Committee and of the Central Pennsylvania delegation,” Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton, D-Phila/Delaware said. “Using her experience and her expertise she has been a mentor to many members of our caucus, and she has truly earned this recognition from the National Foundation for Women Legislators.”
“Recognition from the people you work with and admire is the best praise one can get. My approach has always been to advocate for thoughtful, bipartisan policies that solve problems and result in a good quality of life for working people and their families,” Hill-Evans said. “With the current legislative session coming to an end, I’m especially proud this year of our success updating the public school funding formula to make it more equitable and less reliant on property taxes. We also secured extra money to renovate schools in disrepair – which resulted in $3.4 million for buildings within the School District of the City of York.”
“Next on the docket is raising our stagnant, uncompetitive minimum wage, and boosting our efforts to address homelessness and better support veterans and first responders,” she continued.
Hill-Evans serves as majority chair of the PA House State Government Committee, where she said she is following Speaker McClinton’s lead in making government more responsive to the needs of all people. The committee’s primary role is to review legislation on issues ranging from voting and elections to campaign finance reform. It also oversees various state agencies, including the Pennsylvania Department of State, the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Public Employees’ Retirement System, the State Employees’ Retirement System, and the Independent Regulatory Review Commission.
“NFWL is built on the spirit of celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of hardworking, dedicated women, and we are thrilled to honor this year’s outstanding leaders,” said NFWL Executive Director Jody Thomas.
