Boosting State Support of Seniors

AVOCA, Oct. 29 – The House Majority Policy Committee convened a hearing Tuesday morning to discuss ways the state can boost support for its senior population, hosted by Reps. Jim Haddock (D-Lackawanna, Luzerne) and Eddie Day Pashinski (D-Luzerne). With 3.4 million older adults, Pennsylvania has the fifth-oldest population in the nation, and that number will continue to rise. The Pennsylvania Department of Aging helps manage the commonwealth’s 52 area agencies on aging, which serves our older population. Secretary Kavulich detailed the main areas where older Pennsylvanians say they need assistance include affordable housing, transportation, and community services.
