Probst excited for $175,000 park grant

HARRISBURG, Nov. 12 – State Rep. Tarah Probst said today’s $175,000 grant announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be used to upgrade a community park in Smithfield Township.

“I’m always happy when our communities can improve facilities to make them available for more residents to enjoy, and this state funding will accomplish that goal,” said Probst, D-Monroe/Pike.

Smithfield Township will receive $175,000 for further development of Marshalls Falls Park, including construction of pedestrian walkways and overlook, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

Today’s grant was provided through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which offers a wide range of grant and technical assistance programs to help communities, land conservancies and non-profit organizations plan, acquire, and develop:

  • recreation, park and conservation facilities.
  • watersheds, rivers corridors, resources and buffers.
  • greenways and trails.
  • heritage areas and facilities.
  • critical habitat, natural areas and open space.

Funding for C2P2 comes from various sources, including:

  • Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93).
  • Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener 1).
  • Heritage Areas Funding.
  • Keystone Tree Fund.
  • Snowmobile Restricted Account.
  • All-Terrain Vehicle Restricted Account.
  • Federal Highway Administration funds to the Pennsylvania Recreational Trails program.
  • Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
  • Federal Highlands Conservation Act.
