Siegel: local non-profit awarded $200K for a developmental program

HARRISBURG, Nov. 12 – State Rep. Josh Siegel is pleased to announce a $200,000 state grant has been awarded for a development program in his community.

“This announcement and funding will not only benefit our community and its environment, but also our workforce here in Lehigh County,” said Siegel. “I was glad to help acquire this funding for all those it will benefit. The Promise Neighborhoods of Lehigh Valley is an important non-profit organization here in the Lehigh Valley and does great work for those who live here.”

Promise Neighborhoods of Lehigh Valley will use its $200,000 to coordinate and fund an Urban and Community Forestry workforce development program in Lehigh County.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ C2P2 offers a wide range of grant and technical assistance programs to help Pennsylvania communities, land conservancies and non-profit organizations plan, acquire and develop:

  • recreation, park and conservation facilities.
  • watersheds, rivers corridors, resources and buffers.
  • greenways and trails.
  • heritage areas and facilities.
  • critical habitat, natural areas and open space.

C2P2 programs are linked with other DCNR efforts to conserve historic resources, protect water quality, enhance tourism, improve physical and mental health and foster community development. Funding for C2P2 comes from various sources, including:

  • Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93).
  • Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener 1).
  • Heritage Areas Funding.
  • Keystone Tree Fund.
  • Snowmobile Restricted Account.
  • All-Terrain Vehicle Restricted Account.
  • Federal Highway Administration funds to the Pennsylvania Recreational Trails program.
  • Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
  • Federal Highlands Conservation Act.
