Webster announces over $2.4 million in grants to enhance multiple infrastructure, equipment projects

HARRISBURG, Oct. 28– State Rep. Joe Webster, D-Montgomery, is proud to announce that numerous municipal infrastructure and equipment projects in Collegeville Borough, Lower Providence Township, Upper Providence Township, and West Norriton Township have received over $2.4 million through Local Share Account grants.

"I'm proud to secure money that allows for the repair of stormwater systems, the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment, the relocation of a fueling station, and the enhancement of park facilities,” Webster said. “Everyone benefits when Montgomery County municipalities receive these funds, and it helps improve the functionality, safety, and accessibility of our communities.”

Here are the six projects that were awarded grants:

Collegeville Borough will receive $250,000 to upgrade a stormwater conveyance system. This project will replace the deteriorating corrugated metal culvert, which carries the Donny Brook Creek under 6th Avenue, with a new concrete arch culvert. The funds will also assist in the repair of the pavement and sidewalk above the structure, the installation of a guiderail and split rail fence for drop-off protection, and the replacement of inlets and up/downstream endwalls.

A total of $962,624 will be directed to Lower Providence Township for two separate projects. The first will receive $850,000 to rehabilitate 3,640 feet of weakened stormwater collection and conveyance systems with cured in place pipe (CIPP). An additional $112,624 will replace three aging police vehicles that have reached the end of their service life with three 2025 Ford Utility Police Interceptors.

Upper Providence Township is receiving $700,000 that will help them relocate and expand a fueling station for municipal vehicles. The station rotates 30 public works, 23 police, and 17 fire safety vehicles on a regular basis, and this project will help avoid risk and daily interactions between township equipment and a nearby community playground.

West Norriton Township was awarded a total of $498,354 in funding for two projects. The first $298,354 grant will go toward purchasing a new vehicle and equipment to assist with snow plowing, leaf and yard waste collection, and salting. The township will also receive $200,000 to improve Centennial Park by adding an amphitheater, a covered stage structure, accessible restroom, and reconstructing segments of the trail system.

As a result of Act 71 (the Gaming Act) and through the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Commonwealth Financing Authority, LSA funds allocated to Montgomery County are suitable for the redevelopment, reuse, or revitalization of previously developed land, development of undeveloped land, and projects which construct, expand, or improve water and wastewater infrastructure related to business development.
