HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Patty Kim today announced the state is providing $5.5 million in funding for four redevelopment projects in Pennsylvania’s capital region.
The funding, provided through the state’s Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program, will fund the following projects:
- Harrisburg Plaza at 1422 Route 179, awarded to Florida Realty, $ million
This large-scale project will take on the redevelopment of over 237,000 square feet of a no-longer-used federal building. The project will include some demolition as well as the necessary construction to redevelop this building into a mixed-use building for the benefit of Harrisburg residents. There will be 162 apartments with amenities for residents, as well as access to commercial retail spaces within the building.
- Northeast Fire and Rescue Co. New Fire Station, awarded to Northeast Fire and Rescue Co., $1 million
This project will renovate the current social hall as administrative and training space, build an addition to the renovated building, demolish the current fire station, replace it with a new building, and finish out the interior of the addition. Funds will support general construction costs as well as all required electrical, plumbing, HVAC, paving, concrete, utility (gas and water) alarm and security system engineering design and construction, demolition, and removal of all debris associated with the old fire station, and earthwork.
- Bridge – Harrisburg J.E.D.I.I. Center Phase II, awarded to The Bridge HBG, LLC, $3 million
The funds will specifically be used for restoration and weatherproofing of the former Bishop McDevitt High School as well as demolition of compromised or otherwise no longer needed components of the building.
- Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg Gymnatorium Expansion, awarded to the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg, $500,000
The project includes construction associated with the gymnatorium build out. The new structure will be a two-story expansion onto Duncan Hall, an existing building on the Alexander Grass Campus for Jewish Life, with a two-story connector. The lower level of the structure will include a pool, locker rooms, and Kosher kitchen. The upper level of the structure will include a PIAA regulation-sized basketball court, and the storage space needed to convert the space for large-scale events.
"These transformative projects will greatly enhance the quality of services available in our community,” said Kim, D-Cumberland/Dauphin. “I’m proud to have assisted the recipients in securing this competitive funding and eagerly anticipate seeing these initiatives come to fruition. When we secure state investments in local development, we not only benefit from the improvements but also help manage local costs effectively.
“Many thanks to the recipients’ hard work in securing these awards; your commitment to our region is second to none.”
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a Pennsylvania grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
