Haddock brings home $6.75 million in state grants

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Jim Haddock is pleased to announce that he has secured $6.75 million in state grants for improvement projects in the 118th Legislative District.

“I fight hard for the communities that I represent in Harrisburg, and my office is in regular contact with local officials and business leaders to determine how we can best leverage state grant programs to improve community assets such as those that will be funded through these grants,” said Haddock, D-Luzerne/Lackawanna. “I was happy to work with Senator Marty Flynn and Governor Josh Shapiro in making sure these dollars made it back to our area.”

City of Pittston: $4 million

This public-use project will take place at the site of the former Quinns Supermarket lot that currently sits vacant and blighted. The project involves creating a mixed-use, four-level parking garage with retail and residential units. The project will also break ground on the city of Pittston's Promenade, an-open air area that includes greenery, walking paths, and aesthetically pleasing architecture. The parking garage will have solar components and EV charging stations, which will be the first of their kind in Pittston City.

Interstate Building Materials Inc.: $1.5 million

This project involves adding a second story to the office building and upgrading parking at the Interstate Building Materials facility.

Northeastern Pennsylvania Educational Television Association/WVIA: $750,000

The project involves roof replacement, new garage, access road and canopy.

Glenburn Township: $600,000

This project will entail construction of a public service facility on land owned by Glenburn Township and adjacent to the current township municipal building. Funds will be used to construct a building that will be used for township vehicles, equipment, and tools necessary to provide township maintenance and repair work. The new facility also will include parking.

Multi-Purpose Stadium Authority of Lackawanna County: $500,000

The PNC Field Improvements Project will involve upgrades to the stadium home team areas, visitor team areas, and the development of an umpire area; all to achieve compliance with the new MLB facility standards.

The funding was acquired through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a state grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
