Madden welcomes $1 million for MCTI expansion

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Maureen Madden has secured a $1 million grant to help with the expansion of the Monroe Career & Technical Institute.

“For years, MCTI has been doing wonderful things preparing students for the workforce or their post-secondary education opportunities. As a former educator, I am glad that I was able to help county and school officials work through the process of acquiring this important grant funding,” said Madden, D-Monroe.

The Monroe County Industrial Development Authority will receive $1 million for an expansion of the MCTI Conference Center. The project will provide a needed improvement to the security of MCTI. The addition will provide an indoor, locked-down, staging area during the daily transition time. The addition will also provide the space needed to grow MCTI's programs.

Madden said the funding was acquired through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a state grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.

Today's announcement is in addition to the $250,000 grant that Madden procured in May from the Commonwealth Financing Authority for improvements to the existing MCTI building in Pocono Township.
