Swearing In Ceremony - September 30, 2024

Reps. Keith S. Harris and Andre D. Carroll are sworn-in to become the newest state Representatives from the Philadelphia area. Harris will serve PA's 195th Legislative District, located in north Philadelphia and encompassing the neighborhoods of Stanton, Brewerytown, Girard and parts of Strawberry Mansion. Carroll will serve the PA's 201st Legislative District, located in northwest Philadelphia and encompassing the neighborhoods of Germantown, Logan and West Oak Lane.

The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus hosted the Pennsylvania State Coalition of the National Council of Negro Women for the NCNW’s lobbying day at the Capitol.

Salute to African-American Heroes of the Civil War

Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton, Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus Chairwoman Donna Bullock, along with Reps. Patty Kim and Stephen Kinsey, speak at a recognition ceremony at the state Capitol to celebrate African-American Heroes of the Civil War, their decedents and the progression of equity, freedom and justice as promised in these United States for all people.

October 5, 2022 - Environmental Justice

At a joint hearing before the House Democratic Policy Committee and the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, testifiers pointed to specific ways state government can refocus its efforts on environmental justice and racial equity in order to help communities. Testifiers and legislators said these efforts must include a focus on working class neighborhoods, which many times are plagued by environmental concerns, decreasing property values, a lack of fair representation in the decision-making process and other issues.

August 23, 2022 – Youth Violence Intervention and Prevention

The House Democratic Policy Committee convened a hearing in Erie with the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus to discuss methods of youth violence intervention and prevention.

Juneteenth Celebration 2022

Members from the Pennsylvania General Assembly joined with guests who performed spoken word poetry and African dance highlighting Black cultural achievements. Members who spoke at the celebration agreed that while Juneteenth was the start of independence for Black people in America, there is still much work to be done to truly achieve not only equality – but equity.

Bullock Leads Inaugural K. Leroy Irvis Day of Action

Rep. Donna Bullock, chairwoman of the Pa. Legislative Black Caucus, leads the inaugural K. Leroy Irvis Day of Action to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the election of Irvis as the first Black speaker of any state legislature in the U.S. and make heard the voices of legislators and advocates working to address systemic inequities across Pennsylvania.

PA Tourism Office Grants Awarded For Juneteenth Celebrations

Rep. Donna Bullock and other members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus join the Wolf administration and the nonprofit Voices Underground in celebrating the inaugural awarding of Journeying Toward Freedom grants through the Pennsylvania Tourism Office to support Juneteenth celebrations across the commonwealth in 2022 for seven organizations.

Telling the story of the Pa. Legislative Black Caucus and its members throughout the years, the display also paid tribute to a pre-Civil War African American neighborhood that once stood on the grounds of the Pa. state Capitol.

Black Lives Matter House Chamber Protest

Democratic lawmakers joined the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus in a moment of civil disobedience in the House chamber to demand action on police reform bills currently stalled in the House of Representatives.

Raising awareness for bone marrow donor need

Rep. Stephen Kinsey, chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, hosted a news conference to bring attention to the crucial need of bone marrow donors, especially people of color. Kinsey was joined by Sen. Larry Farnese, D-Phila., and Michael Garbin from Be the Match. The news conference was held in honor of Juwan Adams, a senior at Abington Senior High School who has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and who is currently waiting for a donor match.

Dignity for incarcerated women news conference

Members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus and other House Democratic members held a news conference in the Capitol Media Center to discuss a package of bills designed to help incarcerated women and families in Pennsylvania.

Cheyney University president visits state Capitol

Cheyney University President met with members of the PLBC and other legislators in Harrisburg to put rumors to rest, clear up confusion, and lay out the school’s plan moving forward. The university will focus on balancing its budget, preventing overspending, fundraising, and increasing enrollment. This meeting also focused on the importance of working with the state legislature to help move Cheyney forward and ensure students receive a quality education.

2019 Black History Month~PLBC and Tuskegee Airmen

The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus celebrated the achievements and contributions of the Tuskeegee Airmen. Hosted by Chairman Stephen Kinsey, the program included the uplifting sound of the Kappa Concert Choir and Praise Dancer Sanaa Sewell and discussions with members of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen.

2019 PLBC Black History Month event

The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus hosted a Black History Month program at the state Capitol on Feb. 4. The event's theme was "Black Migrations." The program featured performances by the Pine Forge Academy Choir and the Enon Vessels of Praise Dance Troop and artwork displayed by Cheney University art students. Dr. Chieke E. Ihejirika, professor at Lincoln University, was the featured speaker.

Bullock: 3rd Annual Fall Environmental Panel

State Rep. Donna Bullock, D-Phila., hosted her Third Annual Fall Environmental Justice Panel to discuss inclusion, equity and environmental gentrification. She was joined by Aaron Mair, past national president of the Sierra Club, and community environmental and housing advocates.
