BUCKS COUNTY − January 16, 2024 − Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and Representative Tina Davis (D-141) today announced that Bristol Borough will receive $250,000 in Act 13 Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program funds for Maple Beach Road trailhead improvement. The funds will be used to design and construct a multi-use trail along Maple Beach Road and a parking area. The trail will connect the newly constructed Maple Beach Road bridge to the D&L Canal Trail terminus and Bristol Waterfront Park Trails. “This project will connect several recreational and natural resources in Bristol Borough, further expanding the trail network and allowing residents to get the most out of the area’s outdoor recreational opportunities,” said Senator Santarsiero. “Preserving our outdoor recreation area for future generations is important to the quality of life in the Bristol community,” said Representative Davis. “I look forward to the completion of the Maple Beach Road Trailhead Improvements project.” Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds can be awarded for projects involving development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails, and river conservation. My continued advocacy for expanding Pennsylvania’s state Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit Program led to a win for working parents paying for child care or care for family members who are elderly or living with disabilities. This week, the House and Senate voted to more than triple the state tax credit to help working families get – and pay for – quality care. Read more
The bill creates important protections, including restricting shackling and solitary confinement; providing trauma informed care training of corrections officers interacting with pregnant and postpartum women; and providing up to three days of post-delivery bonding time between a mother and newborn child, among other protections. As the number of pregnant or postpartum incarcerated women rise, we must ensure they have the support that they and their babies need. Read more
Studies have shown that solitary confinement has led to greater psychological issues for incarcerated individuals, making it more difficult for them to be rehabilitated and reintroduced into society. This puts a stress on the social services system and leads to a higher recidivism rate.” Read more

The House passed House Bill 612, providing a 7% increase in funding to Penn State University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Temple University and a 25% increase in funding for Lincoln University. The bill also freezes tuition increases at the universities for the 2024-25 school year. This week the House also passed legislation with overwhelming support that would ensure greater transparency by making the state-related universities subject to certain provisions of the state’s Right to Know Law. HARRISBURG, Oct 4 – State Reps. Tina Davis, D-Bucks, and Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, highlight the inclusion of a child and dependent care tax credit program in the House tax code bill which was passed Tuesday. This provision expands Pennsylvania's Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit by increasing the percentage taxpayers can claim as well as increasing the allowable expenses. “Families are faced with steep childcare costs and difficult decisions,” Davis said. “This bill will provide a much-needed tax break to families throughout the commonwealth. Our children deserve exceptional childcare, and parents should be able to provide it without worrying about breaking the bank.” Shusterman echoed Davis’ comments. “Here in the commonwealth, childcare for one child averages $12,000 a year, often more,” Shusterman said. “The hardworking parents of Pennsylvania do not deserve to be priced out of childcare and in turn, being denied the opportunity to work year-round.” Sept. 30 was the end of pandemic-era federal aid to childcare providers.
