Fiedler welcomes nearly $1 million in state funding for local projects

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 23 – Today, state Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler, D-Phila., announced that $944,719 from the Pennsylvania Local Share Account has been awarded in her district for three projects.

The projects awarded this funding include:

  • $600,000 awarded to the City of Philadelphia for Phase II renovations to the Murphy Recreation Center.

  • $300,000 awarded to PIDC Financing Corp. on behalf of the Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Association Coalition Inc., known as SEAMAAC, for building renovations to their office and service center.

  • $44,719 awarded to PIDC Financing Corp. on behalf of Theatre Exile for improvements to their facility located on 13th Street and much-needed equipment, materials and supplies to furnish and fit out the newly constructed theater space.

“Together, Murphy Rec, SEAMAAC and Theatre Exile represent some of the best of South Philly. These are three organizations dedicated to serving children and families, advocating for immigrants and refugees, and helping local artists find their voices,” Fiedler said. “For those reasons, the facilities improvements made possible through these grants will be felt throughout the community. I’m so proud I was able to support them!”

The grant applications were supported by state Sen. Nikil Saval, D-Phila., whose legislative district overlaps with Fiedler’s in South Philadelphia.

“Each of these awards shows our commonwealth’s recognition of the incredible work my constituents are doing throughout the district to cultivate vibrant community spaces that help make our city safer, more inclusive, more beautiful, more inspiring and more connected,” Saval said. “To work with Representative Fiedler in bringing this important investment to our South Philly neighborhoods has been an honor.”

The Statewide Local Share Account funding comes from the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
