(Oct 22, 2024)

HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 -- Today, state Reps. Elizabeth Fiedler, D-Phila.; Gina Curry, D-Delaware; and Lisa Borowski, D-Delaware, joined Gov. Josh Shapiro for the ceremonial signing of H.B. 2127 , which directs the PA Department of Health to create a public awareness campaign around perinatal and postpartum depression. "Around a decade ago was the time I both became a mom and had the chance to interview mothers struggling with postpartum depression as a reporter,” Fiedler said. “That time taught me that even through the beauty and joys of parenthood, there can be moments of immense darkness. I knew when I was elected that I wanted to work hard to ensure no one has to go through PPD alone. And now, years later, I am proud to say that with the help of my colleagues Representative Curry and Representative Borowski, we’ve successfully passed legislation to improve the health of new moms and babies in Pennsylvania.” “I am thrilled and incredibly grateful for the passage of H.B. 2127, the first of eight bills in the PA Momnibus proposed in March 2024,” Curry said. This bill underscores the importance of not only having a birthing plan but also a comprehensive postpartum plan. (Oct 10, 2024)

Harrisburg, October 10 — On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania legislature passed legislation (H.B.2127), which directs the PA Department of Health to create a public awareness campaign around perinatal and postpartum depression. The bill was introduced by state Reps. Elizabeth Fiedler, D-Phila., Gina Curry, D-Delaware, and Lisa Borowski, D-Delaware. “As a mom of two, I know that even during the immense joy of bringing a baby into the world, mothers can struggle with postpartum depression,” Fiedler said. “New moms should not have to deal with the shame and isolation that often accompany this common, treatable heath condition. This new public awareness campaign is critical to increasing education, reducing stigma and saving lives.” “This bill is not just a legislative measure; it is a critical lifeline for countless families, addressing the postpartum challenges of depression, psychosis, and other perinatal mental health issues head-on. It marks a crucial first step in providing the education and resources needed to ensure that birthing individuals understand they are not alone in their struggles,” Curry said. Maternal mental health conditions are the leading cause of pregnancy-associated death in the commonwealth, according to the Pennsylvania Maternal Mortality Review Committee. Fiedler reacts to Solar for Schools bill signing ceremony

(Sep 10, 2024)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 10 -- State Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler, D-Phila., issued the following statement on the ceremonial signing of the Solar for Schools Act on Monda y : “When I came into this job, I had spent a decade reporting in the city of Philadelphia. I covered much of what makes Philly a wonderful place to live. But I also had a front-row seat to its injustices, like our underfunded public schools. “I had a 3-month-old and a toddler when I ran for office. I didn’t know as much as I do now about Harrisburg, but I did know I wanted to help kids get money for their schools and to make sure we were handing off a livable planet for the next generation. “For years, and through many budget seasons, I worked with my colleagues in Harrisburg without much progress toward these goals. I knew we needed a different approach. “So, we set out to do something that at the time seemed radical: bring together labor and environmental partners who are too often pit against each other in the Capitol. We quickly realized this wasn’t a crazy idea at all. By focusing on what unites us -- the desire for union jobs and climate action -- we were able to create a Blue-Green coalition that has developed a bold legislative agenda and a fierce determination to deliver. “Solar for Schools was the product of our initial brainstorms. We knew we needed a bill that had potential to save schools money, deliver on clean Read more

The IRA is an essential step, but it can’t be the last step.” "Solar for Schools is not just an opportunity to bring clean energy and good jobs to our school communities.
