Fiedler applauds more than $6 million in state grants for local projects

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – Today, state Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler, D-Phila., announced that $6.1 million in state funding has been awarded to her district for three separate projects.

Funding comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program -- a Pennsylvania grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases in employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.

The projects receiving funding include:

  • $1.55 million to help IATSE Local #8, Philadelphia’s stagehands union, expand their South Philly training center, so that more local workers can build skills and establish careers in TV, film, and live event production.

  • $3 million for Navy Yard site preparation to support critical electric infrastructure and development.

  • $1.55 million for the bioMérieux Navy Yard project, which will allow the biotechnology firm to triple the size of their current space and expand manufacturing and research activities.

“These projects will create good-paying local jobs for South Philadelphia residents and also increase tax revenue to support community needs,” Fiedler said. “I’m proud to see such a large amount of state funding come back to our district, and I am committed to securing more RACP grants in future budgets.”
