O’Mara announces $2.5M in grants benefiting Delco residents

(Apr 19, 2022)

SPRINGFIELD, April 19 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara today announced that Delaware County and organizations within have been awarded $2.5 million in grants to help create local apprenticeship programs, invest in electric vehicles and charging stations, and heighten safety measures at a local place of worship. “It’s rewarding to see state dollars working to preserve two of our constitutional rights – our right to religious freedom plus our state constitution guarantees Pennsylvanians the right to clean air and pure water,” O’Mara said. Funding has been awarded as follows: Beth El-Ner Tamid: $20,000 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to strengthen the synagogue’s safety and security measures. Delaware County: Two grants, both worth $300,000, from the Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant program , to go toward electric vehicle usage. One grant will go toward purchasing 69 electric cars for use by county departments, with 29 dedicated to the new health department for health care visits around the county. The second grant will install 22 Level 2 dual-plug charging stations, for a total of 44 chargers. The following grants were awarded through PAsmart and will provide regional employment and educational opportunities: BAYADA Home Health Care: $650,000 to Read more

O’Mara announces nearly $83,000 in grants for local emergency responders

(Feb 11, 2022)

SPRINGFIELD, Feb. 11 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, announced seven area fire and EMS companies have been awarded grants through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. “It’s always rewarding to see the state prioritize our emergency responders. They show up during times of crisis and help people overcome some of the scariest, darkest moments of their lives,” O’Mara said. “This funding will help them not only effectively do their jobs, but I hope also serve as a thank you for all that they do.” Local grants were awarded as follows: Springfield Fire Co.: $15,000. Broomall Fire Co.: $15,000. Radnor Fire Co. of Wayne: $15,000. Radnor Fire Co. of Wayne (EMS): $8,325. Morton Rutledge Fire Co.: $13,000. Marple Township Ambulance Corps.: 8,325. Villanova Emergency Medical Services: $8,325. The grants can be used for facility upgrades, equipment, debt reduction, training, education and public outreach, recruitment and retention, construction savings accounts, overtime costs associated with backfilling positions while firefighters are attending training (career departments only), and revenue loss due to COVID-19 impacts. “In addition to these grants, we also just passed separate legislation this week to distribute $25 million in American Rescue Plan dollars to emergency services companies throughout the commonwealth,” O’Mara said. O’Mara applauds governor’s proposed 2022-23 state budget

(Feb 08, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Feb. 8 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara applauded Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed 2022-23 state budget, saying it makes important investments in Pennsylvania’s future. “This budget would invest in education at all levels, including funding that would help our students most in need, would raise the minimum wage to ensure hard-working Pennsylvanians can support their families and would increase support for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations,” O’Mara said. “ The governor’s proposal would also invest in programs critical to protecting our environment, while preparing Pennsylvania’s workers and communities for the transition to cleaner energy. This proposal – which doesn’t raise taxes – sets us on the right track as we work to finalize a budget in the coming months.” The proposed budget, announced today, includes $1 million for the Hunger-Free Campus Initiative, a new grant program to fight food insecurity at colleges and universities – which O’Mara has introduced legislation to create . “ Far too many college students in Pennsylvania are food insecure, and the ongoing pandemic has only exacerbated the problem. I’m pleased that the governor recognizes the need to alleviate this burden so that students’ basic needs are met, and they are able to focus on their education,” said O’Mara, D-Delaware. We can cut utility bills and help the planet by setting appliance efficiency standards in Pennsylvania

(Jan 06, 2022)

As we entered the colder winter months, energy costs across Pennsylvania increased for most customers, including some who saw a 50% hike. This is due to the fact that eight Pennsylvanian utility companies, including PPL Electric Utilities, raised the cost of energy for residential and business customers. These increases ranged from around 6% to 50%, depending on where you live and your energy supplier. However, there is a commonsense solution that can help utility customers reduce the pain of price hikes: promoting energy-efficiency policies to ensure Pennsylvania’s businesses and consumers have access to the most energy-efficient appliances on the market. Not only does this help lower energy costs and save consumer dollars, but energy-efficient appliances also help us reduce pollution and protect the planet. There are dozens of product types sold in Pennsylvania and the United States today that fall into this category. By setting appliance efficiency standards in Pennsylvania, we can get rid of the energy hogs and ensure that every time Pennsylvanians buy a new appliance that it uses energy as efficiently as possible. While not the most glamorous of issues, appliance efficiency standards can make a big dent in our utility bill by helping us reduce energy burdens on Pennsylvanian households. That is why we’ve brought together a group of bipartisan legislators to sponsor and introduce House Bill 1185 and Senate Bill 601 , which would set minimum Read more

O’Mara applauds $15K grant awarded to volunteer fire company

(Nov 22, 2021)

BROOMALL, Nov. 22 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, congratulated Broomall Fire Company for being selected to receive a $15,000 grant to go toward water rescue equipment and training. Funding comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will help the volunteer department purchase dry suits. Dry suits help firefighters respond to standing and swift water rescues, as their typical gear is not suitable for these situations. Funding will also help cover training from a certified water rescue training provider. “As the daughter of a Philadelphia firefighter, ensuring that first responders have all the tools they need to effectively do their jobs and assist people in crisis is one of my top priorities as a legislator,” O’Mara said. “I know this grant will be a huge help to Broomall Fire Company and strengthen their capabilities to respond to people impacted by flooding. This will be especially beneficial to residents who live along Darby Creek and need emergency services after a major storm.” “Over the past several years Broomall Fire Company has seen a significant rise in calls to rescue people stranded in their cars or homes as a result of rising water during significant weather events. We lack the proper protective equipment to safely execute this type of rescue,” Jim Capuzzi, president of Broomall Fire Co., said. Read more
