Jared Solomon, D-Phila., was instrumental in securing $30,000 in funding for the Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association. “Our communities deserve and need safe clean streets,” Solomon said. “We are changing the message in our community. We are sending the message to residents and business owners that we care about our community. “This street cleaning program started off with one sponsor; Prince of Steaks sponsored the weekly cleaning of Castor Avenue,” Solomon continued. “Now the program has expanded to 3 days a week along Castor as well as 2 days a week along Bustleton Avenue and Cottman Avenue.” Tomika Miles, local business owner of Journey Hair salon and head of the business association said: “I have been a hair stylist for over 30 years and an educator for about 15 years. A citation was awarded to Jaafar Alzaidi for his work as a youth coach in The Sports Creative, a nonprofit that builds sports programs for marginalized communities. PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 14 – State Rep. Jared Solomon, D-Phila., presented a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to Christina Lu, a student at Central High School, for her outstanding efforts to stop Asian hate. Lu was traveling on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line in November when she noticed a group of young Asian American students being physically and verbally assaulted by four other students. Lu heroically intervened and was overcome by the perpetrators while her fellow students tried their hardest to protect her. “Everyone has been calling me a hero, but I really am not. I’m just an ordinary girl from an ordinary family who saw people in need of help, and so I tried to help,” Lu said. “I’ll continue to stand up against bullying and violence and help people in need.” Since then, Lu has used her voice to speak out against hatred and discrimination. She spoke at a Stop Asian Hate event and called for better public safety measures on SEPTA. "These improvements started with speed enforcement intitiatives on the Boulevard that I have always been a big propenent of," State Rep. Jared Solomon said. "This funding will go towards alleviating pedestrian and motor vehicle accidents along our most travelled cooridor, and we are thankful that Governor Wolf has taken the safety of Northeast Philadelphia seriously." PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 22 – On the heels of the conviction of Councilmember Bobby Hennon and labor leader John Doughtery on federal corruption charges, state Rep. Jared Solomon, D-Phila., said he is introducing a bill proposing to amend Pennsylvania’s constitution to require elected officials to resign upon being convicted of a crime. Solomon said that once they are convicted of crimes, public officials lose their credibility, integrity and cannot serve their constituents without the idea of bias and corruption overshadowing any significant decisions they make.
