$9.8 million grant awarded to Telford Borough Authority for PFAS water treatment systems

TELFORD, Oct. 21 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority has awarded a $9,815,000 grant to the Telford Borough Authority to ensure cleaner water for residents across Bucks and Montgomery counties.
"This grant represents a significant step in addressing PFAS contamination and ensuring that our communities have access to safe drinking water,” Malagari said. “I'm proud to support Telford Borough in securing this funding, and I will continue advocating for infrastructure investments that protect the health of our residents."
This project will help remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from five key well stations that provide drinking water to Telford Borough and surrounding communities using advanced Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) treatment systems.
The grant is part of the Shapiro administration's $216.3 million investment in 33 infrastructure projects aimed at improving drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and environmental compliance across Pennsylvania. The new GAC systems at Telford will be installed at wells that supply water to portions of Telford Borough, Franconia Township, Hilltown Township, West Rockhill Township and Souderton Borough.
The five well stations will be equipped with a dual-vessel GAC system that works in series to remove PFAS to non-detectable levels. In addition to the new treatment systems, free-standing buildings will be constructed or expanded to house the equipment. Other components of the project include pre-filters to remove turbidity and sediment, new chlorine facilities, and enhanced filtration processes to ensure the highest water quality.
Malagari said the new GAC systems will ensure that Telford and its neighboring communities remain compliant with state and federal drinking water standards while safeguarding public health for years to come.
